"Naked and Unashamed"

So many of us are hiding so much. We're like ducks on a pond - calm and unfuffled above water, paddling like the dickens underneath. (I forget who first used that illustration, but it's true). This article from Sojourners is perhaps worthy of thought.

  1. If I'm not mistaken, it was Michael Caine who first said it - as I recall from a "Men's Health" article on the "best things said by men."

Great article. Isn't that the function of a community of believers, to serve in an environment where you can be totally and completely honest? So everyone can call out your bullshit in addition to caring for you in times of trial?

I wish I had someone consistent who would do this. Outside my Beloved, I don't really have such a person - just the occasional fellow traveler who walks with me a few paces on the journey.

  2. It is the function of a community of believers to do these things you mention. I wonder sometimes how the church has decided that massive structures that require millions to maintain are the best model to be 'the church.'

At the same time, some of those massive edifices contain small groups of accountability and support that are wonderful, so I don't want to hammer the larger churches unnecessarily. But yeah, we need each other to be accountable and to be supportive - without that, we're just the Elks/Kiwanis at prayer.

We've done a fairly good job of this for each other over the net - I think you'll find someone at PLTS who will do the same!
