Friday Five: Take Five!

Whoosh! My calendar is packed. And June is almost gone! There's the old saying, "Bad luck comes in threes" but I've decided that "Busy-ness comes in fives!" So this week we'll take things five-at-a-time. Tell me:

1. Five flowers you'd like in a bouquet or in your garden:
Tough:  I don't know enough about flowers right now to know how to answer this.  There's an old rosebush I'd like to cut down and restart on the east side of the parsonage.  I'd like to have something that blooms really early in the spring so I know winter is ending.  The little blue flowers that are crazy thick in the woods when we go running on the Greenbelt Trail in May.  And I wish I could have brought the Easter lilies from my house in Ames when we moved.  One more?  I suppose a tiger lily like we had on the east side of our house in Minnesota.

2. Five books you want to read (or re-read):
The next book in the Kingkiller Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss - first two were The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear
Lamb:  The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore
Old Man's War by John Scalzi
Skin Game, the next book in the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
The Lord of the Rings - I used to read this every year and now it's been at least four since I last journeyed to Rivendell and beyond.  High time for a return, I believe.

3. Five places you want to visit:
Dyersville, Iowa, home of the Field of Dreams
Itasca State Park in Minnesota, where the Mississippi River begins (you can step over it - it's a stream that far north)
I'd love to get back to Yosemite with Kris and the girls - we'll be going in a few years for my in-laws' 50th wedding anniversary, but why wait?
I want to go back to Dublin, Ireland and play golf in several places in Ireland and the U.K.
Augusta National Golf Course during the Masters Tournament.

4. Five people you'd invite for tea/coffee/beer and pizza:
Clint Schnekloth
David Hansen
Keith Spencer
Kathi Inglis Johnson
Lance Ferguson
and the rest of the metric thread crew.  You know who you are!

5. FIve chores or tasks you'd gladly give to someone else:
Hospital and nursing home visits (I know this is an important part of ministry.  I don't dislike doing them.  But visitation is by far the hardest thing for me to do.)
Everything that needs to be washed by hand in our kitchen.
Folding laundry
Bath time with the girls
Vomit duty when one of the girls is sick (but, really, doesn't everyone wish they could give this one up?)

BONUS: A five ingredient recipe! (This is harder than it sounds!)
Butterfinger Dessert
Make a graham cracker crust in the bottom of a 9X13 casserole pan.
Mix 2 boxes instant butterscotch pudding with half the recommended milk, then mix in 1 pint vanilla ice cream.  Spread over the crust & set/cool in a refrigerator.
Spread one tub whipped topping over the cooled pudding.
Top with 2-3 crushed bars of Butterfinger candy bars.
(okay, so that's six ingredients, seven if you count the butter or margarine for the crust.  But it's as close as I get and it's one of my best!)

  2. Hey, I need to copy and paste that recipe, and also look into the first 4 books (never heard of any of them). Thanks for playing!

  3. I'm a little (JUST A LITTLE) late in visiting the last couple of commenters. I enjoyed reading your post and it's nice to have you back! :) And ditto on the vomit duty. It also applies to cats... ;)
