Again, Paolini hits a home run with his second book in the Inheritance Trilogy. Eldest is a worthy successor to Eragon, and my disappointment with that two-hour chunk of dreck that was the movie version of Eragon is only growing the deeper into the series I get.
It's impossible to give a plot summary without significant spoilers. Just get Eragon and Eldest and enjoy a great new fantasy series.
Sigh. I have to agree with you. I really have no idea how they're going to make a sequel (not that they should, but you know they will). I hate it when they ruin perfectly good books!!!!! Thank goodness the HP adaptations haven't been too bad!
ReplyDelete'Eragon' is very good, but I have yet to read 'Eldest'. I am glad to hear you liked both books. I've been criticized a bit for reading this series because my friends see it as a kid's series. They just do not get it.

I haven't heard when Book Three will be available, but if you're looking for something similar to pass the time, I'd recommend the "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman. Excellent stuff.
ReplyDeleteOn the whole, I think Inheritance is slightly more grown up than Harry Potter, but I also think good literature is good literature, regardless of who its intended audience may be. I just read "Bridge to Terabithia" last week and loved it all over again, and that one won a Newberry Award for kids' literature. You're right - some people just don't get it.
The HP films have been wonderful, IMHO, considering how they've required more and more editing the further along they go. With this and Jackson's great LOTR films, why can't people put the work into making good films from more good books?
